My mom gave up a flourishing career as a doctor to enable me to follow my dreams,’ says Priyanka, seen with her mother Dr.Madhu. Beauty queen-turned-actress Priyanka Chopra, who is riding high on the success of her films "Dostana" and "Fashion", says had it not been for her mother's insistence, she wouldn't have even made it to the Miss India contest in 2000, leave alone winning the crown. "My mother has played a very important role in where I stand today. She was the one who sent in my entry for the Miss India pageant.
I didn't even know she was doing it. The win at Miss India and subsequently Miss World was what started my career. "So, a lot of the credit has to go to her. Having chosen to come to Mumbai and pursue a career in films, my mom gave up a flourishing career as a doctor to enable me to follow my dreams. She has stood with me through all my ups and downs. Kohli's film requires him to go through several phases of life until the character reaches old age. The problem is, how will the actor ensure he looks old in two completely different ways in the back-to-back releases? Last week the actor and the director were in Goa deciding on the look for the various phases of his character's aging process.

The director admits, "I did spend a lot of time with Shahid in Goa discussing his look. I can't reveal what is required of him. But for Shahid who's a brilliant actor, it is important to constantly push the envelope. He can't repeat himself. The roles in both the films are very different."

Ad-vantage B-Town bombshells
Nothing sells like cricket in the Indian subcontinent as it's a heady combo of action, glam and entertainment. The action is big on the small screen. The ad revenues are mind-blowing and has shown a consistent rise in the last few years. This year, immediately after the World Cup (WC), the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be back. Sample this: while cricket is expected to earn an ad revenue of Rs 1,800 crore from its television telecast this year (up from Rs 1,500 crore in 2010, as it showcases the World Cup and the Indian Premier League in back-to-back events). How big cricket ad revenue is can be gauged from the fact that the ad revenue of 2011 is expected to touch Rs 700-800 crore as compared to the Rs 300 crore of the inaugural edition of IPL.
Cashing in on the cricket fever are Bollywood hotties. In the midst of chasing targets, flying sixes, you can see B-Town beauties endorsing brands. According to various industry sources, the ladies leading the race are Kareena Kapoor (approximately Rs 2.5-3 crore per endorsement), Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif (about Rs 2-2.5 crore per endorsement), Deepika Padukone (about Rs 1.5-2 crore per endorsement) and Genelia (about Rs 1.5 crore per endorsement).

According to a recent study, the top recalled ads during the Annual Academy Awards 2011 had four ads endorsed by celebrities. Rajneesh Krishna, senior professor of a leading communications management institute feels, "The presence of a Bollywood actor breaks the clutter and if the personality of the actor is in consonance with the brand, then it clicks."
'Brand fit' is the name of the game. Chandan Nath, president of a leading ad agency feels "Priyanka could be the next big thing among celeb endorsers", while ad man Prathap Suthan hedges his bets on Deepika, who he says is the right mix of the "modern and traditional, sporty and the demure." Brand consultant Anand Halve, says, "Until last year, it was a tie between Priyanka and Kareena. But today Katrina is seen as someone who with a lot of potential as she retains a sense of authenticity in the ads."
As the battle of the B-Town bombshells gets spicier by the day, the BO success rate too will significantly tilt the scales in their favour, in the coming months. Until then, the headturners will continue to grab eyeballs and rake in the big bucks.

Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra in run for fun, fearless award
New Delhi, March 4 – Bollywood beauties Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra are in the run for Cosmopolitan Magazine’s fun, fearless awards, to be held in Mumbai Saturday.
The three actresses are competing in Fun, Fearless Female All Time Reader’s Choice Award this year.
Other categories include – Fun, Fearless Power Couple award, for which the nominees are – Kareena Kapoor-Saif Ali Khan; Hrithik Roshan-Sussanne Khan and Arbaaz Khan-Malaika Arora Khan.
There is also a Fun, Fearless Male 2010 Reader’s Choice Award, and Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Salman Khan, and Arjun Rampal are competing for the title in this category.
The event, in its third edition now, takes place annually in India, Britain and the US.
“The Fun, Fearless Female Awards is a cult, one-of-its-kind event that celebrates all that’s iconic of the Cosmo woman – her attitude, drive, and the never-say-never spirit,” Nandini Bhalla, editor of Cosmopolitan, said in a press statement.
The organisers are expecting a star-studded turnout at the event Saturday at the Taj Land’s End, Mumbai.
“The response has been tremendous – from readers, Bollywood favourites, and the industry. The Fun Fearless Awards are a pat on the back to women (and some special men) from different areas of life-acting, music, theatre, and more.
“Last year’s awards saw a great turnout – Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, and more. And this year’s awards promise to be bigger, better, and more Cosmo than ever,” said Mala Sekhri, chief operating officer, Lifestyle Magazines, India Today Group.

“I have been planning my wedding since as far back as I can remember! My ideal scenario is getting married six times (to the same man of course),” Priyanka revealed in the upcoming, second anniversary issue of fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar.
The 28-year-old, one of the most eligible singles in tinsel town, already has elaborate plans set in her mind about the six spots and types of ceremonies she would like to have.
“My dadaji’s (grandfather’s) house in Ambala – my ‘big, fat Indian wedding’; underwater at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia; a church in Las Vegas – wearing a short black dress and with the priest dressed as Elvis; the intimate ceremony – at a small, beautiful church in Locarno, Switzerland. It’s on top of a hill that overlooks parts of Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.
She also wants to go in for a nikah.
“Only very close family and friends will be present; a nikah – I think it’s a beautiful, romantic ceremony – the curtains, the stolen glances, the words, and finally the acceptance… ‘Kabool hai’; and lastly, the groom’s choice! If my future groom survives all that, then we’ll survive anything!” she added.
The plans are all quite set of course, but Priyanka says marriage does not figure on her priority list as of now.
“There is so much happening on the work front right now, which is my priority. I will get married, but I can’t say when. It’s not really in my control. I am a hopeless romantic, so I’m waiting for the man who is meant to be with me; he may arrive today, or five years later,” she said.
In the meantime, her hectic schedules and film promotions will keep her on her toes.
She has almost finished the shoot of “Don – The Chase Continues”. She will start work on Karan Johar’s remake of “Agneepath” and then she has Anurag Basu’s “Barfee”, Kunal Kohli’s next, as well as “Krrish 2″.

Priyanka Chopra’s special surprise gift for Shahid on his Birthday
Recently a news of both being separated flashed. Shahid celebrated his birthday without his lady love Piggy Chops. He turned 30, his entire family and friends attended the party, while Priyanka was far away in U.S. This news made the columnists to suspect that the duo have broken off. Even last year, at Priyanka’s birthday party Shahid was missing, which left people speculating their split. But later, they were heard to patch up. Similarly, this time too, news of their break up turned up.
A while ago, it was learnt that even though Priyanka is out of India, but she had already sent gifts to her beau. Before she left, she bought for the birthday boy a Harley Davidson bike and a white helmet. She had planned everything well in advance. The bike was delivered to Shahid by Piggy Chops’ employee. And at that moment, white helmet was not available, so she ordered for it, before leaving India. The delivery was taken by her employee, and was gift-wrapped. It was presented to Shahid in midnight.
Certainly, this was the best surprise gift Shahid could have ever thought of. He was delighted when the gift was handed over to him.

"We haven't really spent that much on it. No, it isn't an expensive film," said the 28-year-old who enjoys being one of the top actresses in Bollywood.
It wasn't easy for Priyanka to go through seven different looks and emotions in "7 Khoon Maaf", which is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. On top of it there were all those stories about the intimate scenes with her leading men.
"After seeing the film, I've had people ask, 'Where is the kissing scene with John (Abraham), the love scene with Neil (Nitin Mukesh)?' Did I say there were love-making scenes? The one really lengthy bedroom sequence I have was with Irrfan (Khan) and that was done in a salwar-kameez. It was hardly pleasant. For the love-making sequence with Anu Kapoor, I wasn't even present on the sets," she said.
The near-seduction sequence with Vivaan Shah was also done with a body-double. And Priyanka selected the body!
"The bare back had to be that of a 50-year old woman. My back just wouldn't have worked. I was shown dozens of backs. I finally chose one that I thought would pass off one which I thought could be my back when I am 50. The hardest part of '7 Khoon Maaf' was ageing in front of the camera without props."
There was a lot of improvisation on location of "7 Khoon Maaf".
"That moment when I slap myself in front of the mirror? It wasn't even there in the script! I was supposed to break down in front of the mirror. I suggested I slap myself," said Priyanka, who is sure she cannot get into a role without preparation.
"I am doing 'Agneepath' and 'Barfee' back-to-back. I've set aside time for preparation. I expect a certain surprise element from myself in every role that I play," said the actress who wowed her fans with her performance in "Kaminey" and "Fashion". In fact, the latter fetched her first prestigious National Award.
The recent weeks have not been too easy on the former beauty queen, what with the income tax raid in her house and reports that Shahid Kapoor opened Priyanka's the door to the officials in his shorts.
Commenting on the incident, Priyanka said: "First of all, my maidservant opened the door for the officials. Yes, I did immediately call Shahid because he was the closest to me. My parents were in my other house.
"Shahid is my neighbour. He's five minutes away. He did come to help me out during the raid, as he would've for any other friend. But why would he be in his boxer shorts? I was very angry when I read this.
"The IT officials were very kind. But people who made up such stories were not too kind. I've parents whom I am accountable to when such stories come out," she said.

"She's so hugely talented, completely crazy and so unapologetic. That was awesome. She's also totally sweet which was nice to c. Go gaga! (Sic)" she added.
